SY0-701 · OBJECTIVE 1.4 · CHECKED NOV 5, 2026

Security+ digital signatures versus encryption

Encryption protects confidentiality by transforming plaintext into ciphertext recoverable with the right key. A digital signature supports integrity and origin verification relative to a trusted signing key. A signed package can still contain vulnerable code, and signing does not make a publicly distributed package confidential. Certificate trust, private-key protection, and revocation handling remain part of a sound verification process.

How to read the scenario

Separate the claims: unchanged data, trusted origin, secrecy, and software quality are not interchangeable.

Identify the required outcome, the evidence already provided, and the limits on the technician’s action. Compare every option against those details before deciding. Record why the closest alternative does not meet the stated need.

Original practice example

A publisher digitally signs a software release using a protected private key. Which TWO properties can successful signature verification support? Select TWO.

  1. Proof that the software has no vulnerabilities
  2. Detection of unauthorized modification
  3. Evidence linking the release to the signing key
  4. Confidentiality of the publicly distributed package
Show the answer and explanation

Detection of unauthorized modification; Evidence linking the release to the signing key

A valid signature supports integrity and origin relative to the trusted signing key. It neither encrypts the package nor proves the code is safe.
